Evan Brubaker is a senior linebacker at Carroll High School, and I had the joy of documenting his final football season. Playing a sport for several years deepened connections with teammates and ultimately led to an amazing last season.

Evan's football season was enjoyable to witness, but getting a closer look at his life off the field was just as interesting. Evan spends most of his time taking care of his livestock and working out in the barn...even in the winter!

Win or lose, praying post-game has become regular for this team. In the summer of 2022, Carroll lost its quarterback, Owen Scheele, to cancer. This tragedy made such a significant impact on the community. Ever since that season, it's been made a priority to pray, as well as with the opposing team. Evan (1) kneels with teammates to honor the tradition.

Football is important, but so is maintaining grades. Evan often gets home from school and works on his homework before heading to football practice.

Memorabilia often speak more volume than we expect, and these items testify to that. Evan's ring from 2022, his letterman jacket, and his Bible all mean a lot to him. Each piece has a significant impact on his growing up and how he navigates senior year.

Between Evan experiencing the IHSAA 6A State runner-up in 2022, to this past year making it to semi-state, football will make a permanent mark on Evan's high school memories. He plans to attend Purdue fall of 2026, studying human anatomy.
